Who is responsible for this sad state of affairs?

We have always been demanding for upgradation of signalling, more lines and other infrastructure developments in tune with the leap jump in traffic.

Terminal facility at Thiruvananthapuram is over-utilised more than 2.5 times its allowed capacity, as per railways. Terminal facility at Ernakulam is saturated & Kochuveli inadequate.

As part of upgrading central station, railways proposed to shift maintenance facility to Nemom, 8km south from Thampanoor, where Railways own land. It is going to be a fatal blow for Kerala that Railways havenot yet announced coach yard and overhaul centre at Nemom even this budget.

With our Minister of state Shri Ahmed Saib in railways, it is disappointing for Kerala that expansion of major yards at Thiruvananthapuram (nemom & kochuveli) and Ernakulam are not being provided with adequate funds!!

Rail as most sustainable means of mass rapid transportation

With the worldwide demand for transportation expected to triple by 2050, the future of rail looks good. Rail is by far the most sustainable means of mass rapid transportation. With high speed trains it now represents a viable alternative to short haul flights, and often a more comfortable and convenient alternative to the motor vehicle. In addition to significantly lower energy usage / CO² emissions per passenger, when compared to road or air transport, rail systems require much less land than roads and therefore the environmental impact is further reduced. Since the 1980s there has been what is seen as a gradual ‘renaissance’ of Rail Architecture with High Speed Rail projects in France and Japan leading the way, along with new MRT projects across the globe being completed. As the world is gradually waking up to the reality of the climate crisis we enter a new era of Rail Transportation. This is an exciting new chapter in the development of rail projects. Also today Rail travel is being considered as the most cultured mode of travel of a civilised person
