(Thought from TRPA Desk)
.
The recent court order to ban vehicular traffic through the National Parks in Karnataka during the night time has considerably curtailed the transportation facility between Malabar and Karnataka. This situation can be better utilised to strengthen Kerala’s demand for more trains to Bangalore. It may also be noted that a new broad gauge rail link to Bangalore has been recently opened up via Mangalore & Hasan.
The distance to Bangalore via Coimbatore and via Hasan from various places in Kerala is given below.
The above table clearly shows that our focus should be to introduce more trains to Bangalore via Hasan. There are 2 advantages for this proposal. One is the increase in train service with in Kerala especially through Malabar, for the benefit of short distance passengers. The second advantage is the reduction in distance to Bangalore for passengers beyond Kozhikode.
This will help the Railways to increase the utilisation of the under utilised Mangalore – Hasan – Bangalore rail link also.
So, our suggestion is to start daily express trains from Palakkad and Trivandrum/Ernakulam to Bangalore via Shornur, Mangalore & Hasan . This will serve as another gate from Kerala to the remaining part of India.
