THE TRPA BLOG: Extension of Ananthapuri Express to Guruvayur

Train No: 6123 Chennai Egmore – Trivandrum Ananthapuri Express can be extended upto Guruvayur. Currently this train leaves Egmore at 19.15 hrs and reaches Trivandrum by 11.05 hrs. This can reach Guruvayur by 16.00/16.30 hrs with minor changes in the timings and by removing the “cushion timings” provided in the Time Table. This rake can be used to run the existing 6128 Guruvayur – Egmore Express at night.

The rake of existing 6127 Egmore – Guruvayur Express which reaches Guruvayur by 6.40 hrs can be used to run the proposed 6124 Ananthapuri Express from Guruvayr to Egmore via Trivandrum. This service may start from Guruvayur by 10.30/11.00 hrs with minor changes in the timings and by removing the “cushion timings” provided in the Time Table.

The main advantages of this suggestion are:

One stabling (parking) line each will be made free at Trivandrum as well as at Guruvayur during day time. This will be a great relief for Railway authorities.
6123 will function as a direct night train from Chennai to Guruvayur and also as a direct day train to Guruvayur from southern Tamil Nadu starting from Madurai and from south Keralam as well.
6124 will function as a direct day train from Guruvayur to southern Keralam and southern Tamilnadu upto Madurai.
For the people of Keralam this will be a day link between Trivandrum and Guruvayur in both directions which will help the pilgrims immensely.

We feel that Railways will be able to accept this suggestion with minor changes in existing timings of Ananthapuri Express and also by removing the “cushion timings” provided in the Time Table.

Rail as most sustainable means of mass rapid transportation

Since the 1980s there has been what is seen as a gradual ‘renaissance’ of Rail Architecture with High Speed Rail projects in France and Japan leading the way, along with new MRT projects across the globe being completed. As the world is gradually waking up to the reality of the climate crisis we enter a new era of Rail Transportation. This is an exciting new chapter in the development of rail projects. Also today Rail travel is being considered as the most cultured mode of travel of a civilised person

Please donot disturb Ananthapuri express.

Instead I suggest splitting up of Chennai Egmore- Guruvayur express as Chennai Egmore - Trivanddrum day express and Trivandrum-Guruvayur overnight express. Presently there is mix of 2S sitting coaches and SL sleeper coaches. Because of which berths are always in shortage for overnight journey and seats are always in shortage for day joruney.Kindly donot repeat the same mistake for any other train, instead correct the mistake of Chennai Egmore - Guruvayur express at the earliest.
